'Gourdin Ouest'

Available all year round - A divine French country cottage with stunning kitchen and beautiful bedrooms, finished in the old style with beams and stone but with all the modern facilities required for a comfortable stay. The private garden has a pool, and we can provide toys/cots for children if needed.

Surrounded by fields the cottage offers a private space for a tranquil holiday but within 5 minutes (by car) of two bastide towns, which offer markets, restaurants, cafes and shopping for those who wish for a little more excitement. In July the area is full of spectacular sunflowers. The area is very flat so excellent for walking and cycling.

 Close to Bergerac (40 minutes by car) and Bordeaux ( 1 hr and 10 minutes by car) airports. It is 12 minutes ( by car) from La Reole train station which has a fast train to Libourn and Bordeaux.

Gourdin Ouest is a charming country cottage. It is surrounded by farmland and has a view out of the back through woods to the river 'Drop'.  It is beautifully restored and retains many old features such as original beams and interior stone walls. Accommodation comprises:

Five bedrooms: 3 double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms.

3 modern bathrooms (one with shower, one with bath and one with both).

The open plan living area/kitchen is enormous and has it's own TV and sofa area and a hand made wooden breakfast table with a view to the pool.

Two extra mattresses or sofa bed can be supplied if necessary.

Changeover day is friday ( this might be possible to re arrange in the low season)

A weekly maid service is offered at extra cost

Catering can be provided at extra cost

Fridge stocking can be provided at extra cost

The garden is secluded and very pretty with pool and large table under shady trees. There are fruit trees and a vegetable garden and guests are welcome to help themselves to any fruit or veg they need - particularly raspberries, which grow in abundance. A tranquil, rustic setting. There are two beautiful  cats who live on site.

Other: The river behind the house is great for fishing. A licence can be obtained at the local tabac

The cottage is equidistant between the bastide towns of Monsegur and Duras (5 minutes each by car). Both towns are very small and rustic and have many night and day markets and little wine fairs etc during the summer with Jazz music in abundance. They both have miniature supermarkets, cafes and restaurants, bakers, butchers etc and Monsegur has two antique shops. Monsegur also has a second hand bookshop and small but elegant cinema, which plays English films through out the summer. If you need a big supermarket, La Reole is only 12 minutes away with a massive Intermarche.

The cottage is surrounded by farm land (mostly planted with maize and potatoes), so it is pretty quiet with a few neighbors but no one too close.

The area is very flat and wonderful for walking and cycling particularly.

The river drop is behind the house (one field away) and there is the most marvelous walk all the way to Monsegur along the river front.
